RINGSCAFF in the German Bundestag: Scafom‑rux Modular Scaffold Serves as Exhibition Structure
RINGSCAFF in the German Bundestag! 🇩🇪
Inside Berlin’s Paul-Löbe-Haus, an exhibition on Jewish quota refugees came to life that tells the stories of Jewish migrants from the former Soviet Union who arrived in Germany from the early 1990s onward. A sensitive topic, presented in a place with the highest security, safety and planning requirements: the German Bundestag
To make the exhibition possible, the Chamber of Crafts Dortmund and Scafom-rux worked closely together. The task: design and install a modular support structure measuring around 50 × 4 metres that could safely carry exhibits and installations while meeting strict fire protection, load and building regulations
Using the RINGSCAFF modular system, a flexible exhibition framework was created inside the building. Detailed CAD planning, coordinated logistics and precise execution were essential, from material delivery to final assembly. Special PVC base plates were used to protect the sensitive flooring, meet B1 fire protection standards and ensure safe load distribution in a public building environment.
The exhibition opened on 11 November with a vernissage on the ground floor of the parliamentary office building and remained accessible until 11 December. Due to the strict security requirements within the Bundestag complex, including the Paul‑Löbe‑Haus, the project demanded meticulous planning — from logistics and material delivery to the final assembly. The Chamber of Skilled Crafts in Dortmund developed the technical concept, produced CAD drawings and coordinated the implementation together with Scafom‑rux. The goal was to install a modular scaffold structure measuring 50 × 4 metres that could support the exhibition elements while meeting all required safety and fire‑protection standards. Additional partners contributed to the exhibition design through digital planning tools and VR simulations, helping shape the presentation of photographs, documents, eyewitness interviews, personal artefacts and artworks from the immigrants featured in the exhibition.
The exhibition structure was built using the RINGSCAFF modular scaffold system. According to Marcel von Helden, Technical Manager at Scafom‑rux, the system’s modular design and flexible geometry make it ideal for exhibition and presentation purposes — even if its load‑bearing capacity far exceeds what is required for such applications.
Scafom‑rux also supplied special threaded base plates that combine several safety‑critical features. Made of PVC, they are resistant to oils and acids, but in this case were primarily used to protect the sensitive flooring of the Paul‑Löbe‑Haus. They also meet fire protection class B1, which is mandatory for public buildings such as the Bundestag. Another key feature is their electrostatic discharge capability, tested according to TRGS 727, which prevents ignition hazards and allows the plates to be used even in explosion‑protected environments. Each base plate can support loads of up to 20 tonnes, ensuring safe use even under large and heavy scaffold structures.
According to the project partners, the realisation of the exhibition highlights the versatility of modular scaffolding systems far beyond traditional construction sites. The RINGSCAFF system from Scafom‑rux offers high flexibility while meeting strict safety and fire‑protection requirements. Combined with the expertise of the Chamber of Skilled Crafts in Dortmund, the result was a solution that fully met the demands of this unique project.
