600 tonnes of RINGSCAFF used for the rehabilitation Portugal's first cable-stayed bridge

Stretching across the Mondego River in Portugal, the Edgar Cardoso Bridge is a landmark of national infrastructure and the country’s first cable-stayed bridge.

After decades of exposure to weather and load, the structure required extensive rehabilitation – including the replacement of stay cables and renewal of concrete surfaces across nearly three years.

Together with Tubos Vouga, Scafom-rux España made this possible by delivering a tailored access solution using around 600 tonnes of RINGSCAFF, supported by precise 3D planning to ensure safe and efficient work at height.

Highlights of this complex project:

  • Full access to towers, viaducts, and transition piers
  • Suspended scaffolding solutions for challenging geometries
  • Phased tower access adapted to varying timelines
  • Pre-assembled truss systems for safer, faster installation
