Three reasons to use modular scaffolds for industrial applications
While construction or frame scaffolds are primarily used on sites for building, renovating, or constructing houses and apartments, scaffolding professionals working in industrial facilities predominantly use modular scaffolds like the Scafom-rux RINGSCAFF scaffolding system. But why is that? Here are three good reasons why modular scaffolding is particularly well-suited for various tasks in oil and gas facilities, chemical plants, and other industrial settings.
1. Modular scaffolds are particularly versatile and flexible in use
Not only can modular scaffolding be flexibly adapted to various shapes, but it can also be modified for the individual requirements of a plant. Additionally, machinery and other areas can be bridged using modular scaffolding to ensure that ongoing work processes are not interrupted.
2. Particularly high safety standards of modular scaffolding
When dealing with chemical or other potentially hazardous materials, the safety of everyone involved is always the top priority. So, in many industrial facilities, such as oil and gas refineries or chemical plants, the safety regulations imposed by the operator are often particularly stringent.
For instance, in some facilities, only metal parts are allowed to minimize fire risks, and the accidental dropping of material or tools must be prevented using special gap-fill deck ledgers and toeboards. Additionally, the scaffolding systems used in industrial plants must be certified and approved for use within the facility. This naturally narrows the range of scaffolding that can be considered for use in industrial settings. It is mainly modular scaffolds that have such certification.
3. Significant time savings in the assembly and disassembly of modular scaffolding
When shutdowns for maintenance works are conducted in industrial facilities, they are tightly scheduled to minimize production interruptions. This means that scaffolders must be able to respond quickly and efficiently to the scaffolding material needs.
To avoid delays caused by scaffold assembly and disassembly, modular scaffolding is highly recommended, as it is particularly time-efficient to set up.
This is partly due to the manageable number of basic components in a modular scaffolding system and partly to the prefabricated connection points. For more information on the assembly of modular scaffolding, click here.
Modular scaffolds are used in a wide range of projects
Modular scaffolding systems are ideal for a variety of projects due to their versatility, quick assembly, and high safety standards. They are used in sectors such as the oil and gas industry, chemical plants, shipbuilding and maintenance, mining, as well as for infrastructure and construction projects.
